Dentistry has undergone a major paradigm shift, from the old "drill and fill" days to practicing Minimally Invasive Dentistry. With our population living longer than ever before, it is our job as your dental health care providers, to assist you in maintaining optimal oral health.
How do we do this?
By practicing Minimally Invasive Dentistry, we use high tech equipment and state of the art science to do the least possible to make your teeth healthier. Lasers, Digital X Rays, state of the art equipment for the hygienists, magnification, intra oral cameras and other high tech devices, allow us to diagnose Dental disease early and treat conservatively.
Advanced Magnification
Dentistry is micro-surgery. Using similar telescopes that an ophthalmologist uses enables us to create dental restorations with an incredibly precise fit and finish. You just can’t fulfill that level of care with the naked eye. In addition to allowing precise, close up work, the telescope directs a beam of light directly on the teeth, minimizing glare to you. Dr. Vander Beek has been using advanced magnification and high directed advanced illumination for over twenty five years. "Your hands are only as good as your eyes", and with advanced Design for Vision Telescopes using magnification in all procedures, a level of precision would otherwise not possible.
Our Hygienists are able to Diagnose Periodontal disease early on, allowing us to treat it very often conservatively without the need for surgery.
A dental cleaning (prophylaxis) is a procedure performed by one of our skilled, extensively trained hygienists in which stains, plaque and tartar are removed from the teeth, and finished with polishing. This is accomplished with the use of ultrasonic instrumentation and hand scaling. If the unhealthy condition of the gums and teeth become more advanced, a special periodontal cleaning called scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) will be recommended. This non-surgical approach is usually done one quadrant of the mouth at a time while the area is numb. In this procedure, tartar, plaque, and toxins are removed from above and below the gum line (scaling) and rough spots on the root surfaces are made smooth (planing). This procedure helps gum tissue to heal and pockets to shrink. Medications, special medicated mouth rinses, and an electric-sonic tooth brush may be recommended to help control infection and aid in healing.
Cavities are diagnosed with a Diagnodent Laser/Spectra Imaging and the Waterlase Laser is substituted for the drill in many procedures, making your Dental visit more comfortable than ever and often without the need for anesthesia. Our Diagnodent laser allows us to diagnose decay before it can be seen by the eye or even on X-Ray. The Waterlase, by Biolase, is an all purpose laser. Simple in its design but extremely versatile, it can cut both soft (gum) and hard (teeth and bone) tissue without discomfort in most cases.
CariFree Program
The CariFree system is a complete Caries (decay) Risk Assessment and Treatment Program based on the growing new body of medical management science. Using the CariFree Caries Risk Assessment Form in conjunction with the CariFree Corrective Action Form simplifies the diagnosis and treatment process into two easy steps. This program covers all of the established Risk Factors in Disease Factors, Patient Risk Factors, Protective Factors and Laboratory Tests such as the 1 minute CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test. A diagnosis can be made in one appointment and a treatment plan is designed based on a caries risk diagnosis of low, moderate, or high risk. We finally have a valid procedure in treating this biofilm disease with predictable results.
